Trans actor Meli Bendeli, who was arrested on allegations of “obscenity”, has been released. Following her release, Bendeli posted on her social media account to let people know that she was doing well.
In her post, Bendeli wrote: “I have been released. For those who were wondering, don't worry, I'm fine.”
Bendeli had been arrested on allegations of “obscenity” after being detained last month.
In previous statements, Bendeli had said that she was unable to find work in acting due to her trans identity and had been forced to make a living through social media.
Bendeli had described the financial difficulties she was facing in the following words:
“Because I am not given work due to my gender identity, I have to rely entirely on my social media accounts to make a living. I need to undergo surgery to complete my gender affirmation process, and since I am unable to practise my profession, I earn money through social media to cover the costs of this surgery.”
