A delegation from the European Union (EU) and the Council of Europe (CoE) met with LGBTI+ associations in Ankara as part of their visit to Turkey. The meeting took place at the office of Kaos GL—which had recently been raided by the police as part of the “My Family Is Safe” operation—with an agenda focusing on operations against LGBTI+ individuals and human rights defenders, arrests, and the conditions of LGBTI+ prisoners in correctional facilities.

The joint delegation meeting with the LGBTI+ associations included European Parliament Turkey Rapporteur Nacho Sánchez Amor, Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities Local Democracy Rapporteur Bryony Rudkin, and Member of the European Committee of the Regions and Chair of the Working Group on Turkey Jelena Drenjanin.

The joint delegation was received by a delegation of LGBTI+ organizations composed of representatives from Kaos GL, 17 May Association, ÜniKuir, Pink Life (Pembe Hayat), Red Umbrella (Kırmızı Şemsiye), and the Ankara Rainbow Families Association (GALADER).

During the meeting, the participants addressed the operations targeting LGBTI+ activists, LGBTI+ persons in general, and specifically trans women and sex workers, discussing how these operations violate fundamental rights and freedoms.

At the end of the meeting, the joint EU and CoE delegation was presented with an issue of the magazine published by Kaos GL, whose board and supervisory committee members had been arrested on allegations of "obscenity." Delegation members demonstrated their solidarity by taking photographs with the magazine and the LGBTI+ activists.
